In April I attended the WSOPRAS meeting in Istanbul. This is a new conference, held for the second time in 2025, and it is unique in gathering many of the leading oculoplastic surgeons from around the world to share ideas and learning. I was invited to speak on the topic of 'Medical Treatment of Advanced Periocular Basal Cell Carcinoma' and I gave an update on the available new treatments for this type of skin cancer that aim to avoid extensive surgeries for the most advanced cases.
The conference was rapidly paced and it was great to see how colleagues from around the world are advancing our understanding of oculoplastics. It was an honour to be amongst the invited speakers and I certainly learned a lot. I did manage to fit in a day of sightseeing as it was my first time in Istanbul, and saw the Blue Mosque and Agia Sofia, as well as catching up with oculoplastic friends from around the globe (much love to my South American colleagues who let me join in with their sightseeing!)
